Looking to see if anyone has had issues with charging!

Have Hypervolt 3 Pro and on Octopus Intelligent Go.

Been hit and miss on overnight charging, usually with an error on the octopus app the following morning!

Resorting to the ‘boost’ function to step in when I look at the app in the early hours and find that it has stopped.

Have reached out to both Octopus and Hypervolt - and since finding the Forum thought I would see if others had come across similar issues.

On a plus note - car is great - first EV - so accepting that I have a learning curve to master!

Regards

Yes, we have exactly the same problem! In our case we also have a VW Golf PHEV as well as the Renault 5 and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro. The Hypervolt is integrated with Octopus.

The Golf works seamlessly with Intelligent Octopus Go smart charging schedule. But with the R5 only the first octopus session works, then the car fails to respond to subsequent sessions. So like you we’ve resorted to manual bump charges after 11:30pm to ensure we get a full charge on the cheap tariff.

Octopus advised us to reach out to Hypervolt, given that our Golf is working ok. So most likely to do with Hypervolt to R5 communications. Still waiting for a response.

Car is great though!

Slight twist on the above topic

I've just placed an order this week, pop green, techno 52. This will be our first EV, and so next step is to arrange getting home charging setup. I'm finding there is lots to learn about.

Given the above comments about octopus/hypervolt, can anyone recommend a charger/supplier combo they know is working well with the R5 ?

So far I only know of family experiance with zappi charger, but that's alongside their solar installation and not in the UK.

I just had a Commando 32amp socket installed and then use a simple 7.4kw portable charger.

The car system does scheduling, so I set that for the Night Rate electricity hours.

Works well for me.

I Have the same issue

Only difference is I'm with OVO. Had to charge it to top it up in the morning recently at normal tariff rates as it stopped charging overnight. Personally I think its an issue with the atrocious Renault app that stops the overnight charging. I've taken off any charging times off the Renault app and let the Hypervolt work out the best time for cheap rates but the results are intermittent at best.

Conclusion, great car, terrible app!

I also have Hypervolt/Octopus and have experienced the same problem. The car charges fine when scheduled up to midnight, but doesn't do anything overnight.
According to the Hypervolt app, this is because the car is refusing the charge. It appears that the car is going to sleep and cannot be woken up by the charger.

I found that I can remotely wake the car up from my room just before going to bed by unlocking it and locking it again using the key. I presume that there is a fixed period of time before the car goes to sleep again, so as long as you can keep the car awake until the schedule starts, it should work.

This morning I asked the "hey Reno" assistant thingy about this problem and it suggested that the car was going to sleep quickly because I have it in Eco mode. On my next charge I will try changing to a different mode first.

Turns out that the driving mode makes no difference.

I asked the assistant app again and this time it gave me three things to try:
  • Leave the key within range
  • Leave one of the internal lights on
  • Leave the climate control on
Fortunately, I charge my car in a locked garage, so I was able to try the first option. And it worked! The Octopus schedule was adhered to and my car was charged by morning, as requested.

Same issue here with IOG and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro. Both my Kia PHEV and Peugeot e2008 hire car charge perfectly throughout the night but the R5 reluctantly only charges through the first charge slot and then nothing. To charge the R5 (although it’s broken at the moment) I remove the Hypervolt from the list of devices in the Octopus app and then manually charge the R5 through its own charging schedule in the Renault app. Not ideal but it’s a workaround. When I charge my PHEV I I reinstall the Hypervolt as a device in the Octopus app and do a normal IOG charge.

I have an Ohme e-Pod charger and Intelligent Octopus Go (IOG) (R5 Iconic Comfort Range). I have had the car for 2 months and it has never fully charged according to the schedule set by the tariff.

After trying a number of . different configurations without success, Octopus finally agreed that the car is not compatible with smart charging on the IOG tariff. Alternative options they suggested also did not work correctly. I spoke with a Renault specialist who told me that the R5 is not even compatible with Renault’s own Mobilize smart charging App/IOG. However, the Scenic and Megane work with the Mobilize and IOG. He said that the software on the R5 would be modified at some future date to make it compatible.

I agrre with other posts that the car goes to sleep when locked after a certain period of time and will not allow the charge to take place unless it is awoken.. I suspect it makes no difference which smart charger is installed as the schedules are set by Octopus.

It seems the options mentioned in other posts are the best workaround. Either wake up the car by unlocking, leave it unlocked or use the onboard programming set to the overnight cheap rate.

I don't find the ‘My Renault’ App to be very reliable but it is easy to set up charging/climate programmes from the screen. ( https://gb.e-guide.renault.com/eng/openR-link/Videos).

Standard Octopus Go ( not smart charging) offers a slightly more expensive off-peak rate and one hour less at this rate but might prove a simpler option for some people.
